The Taiwan Pavilion at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai will begin a trial run on April 20 and open on May 1 as scheduled, an organizer said Thursday.
According to an official at the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) , a lantern-lighting ceremony will be held at the Taiwan Pavilion on May 11 to help bring success to the exhibition, which is scheduled to run from May 1 to Oct. 31.
Construction work for the 1,400-square-meter Taiwan Pavilion began Aug. 17, 2009 -- later than any of the other pavilions.
The Taiwan Pavilion will use multimedia displays to convey the building's theme -- "Mountain, Water, & Lantern of the Heart" -- with different appearances during the daytime and at night, according to its official Web site.
Visitors will marvel at a huge LED ball representing the "Heart of Taiwan" and a wide array of spectacular views of the island projected onto a lantern-shaped screen, it said.
The Taiwan Pavilion has also invited celebrities to promote the pavilion, including Lin Chih-ling, a movie star and Taiwan's top model; Momoco Tao, a popular TV host; Yi Chang, an acclaimed film director; and Loretta Yang, Art Director of Liuligongfang.
