Volunteers train to show Xuhui charms

(shanghaidaily.com) A volunteer team of registered tour guides is getting ready to show World Expo visitors around Xuhui District, the district's tourism consulting center said yesterday.

After receiving training for three months, 142 guides joined the team, the first of its kind in the city. The group, chosen from more than 1,000 candidates, is versed in five languages, including Chinese, English and Korean.

The district is famous for old-style architecture, boasting spots like the former residence of Soong Ching-Ling on Huaihai Road M.; former site of EMI Recording Studios on Hengshan Road, also known as the birth place of the Chinese anthem; and Wukang Road, a pedestrian street lined by old villas.
