Orange, BesTV link up on multimedia broadcast services

(tmt.interfaxchina.com) Orange, France Telecom's mobile and Internet network brand, has teamed up with Shanghai Media Group's (SMG) new media subsidiary, BesTV New Media, to provide multimedia broadcast services, the two parties jointly announced on Jan. 15.
Under the agreement, Orange will be authorized to broadcast content from the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, for which BesTV is the exclusive new media partner, across its European network.
Orange and BesTV are both leading Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) providers in their respective regions, and the two parties will jointly invest in the development of converged multimedia broadcast services for TV, computers and mobile phones.
Orange has been working since 2005 on developing a viable convergence strategy to provide content via TVs, computers and mobile phones.
BesTV is China's first IPTV provider.
