Yamato sets up JV for China expansion

2010. 20 January

(news.alibaba.com) Japan's largest logistics provider Yamato Holdings Co Ltd and Shanghai Bus Logistics Co set up a joint venture on Monday in a bid to further tap the rapidly growing Chinese market.

The JV, namely Yamato (China) Transport Co, involves a total investment of RMB 600 million, and is scheduled to start operation before the opening of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

The JV will build one to three sorting centers, 25 distribution stations and 280 distribution points in three to five years. The Shanghai-based JV aims at an annual capacity of 300 million orders and a total sales revenue of over RMB 3 billion within five years.

In August 2009, Yamato acquired a 65% stake in Shanghai Bus Logistics Co from Shanghai Bus Group for RMB 480 million.
