Cooking contest precedes World Expo

In Shanghai, the city's leading local chefs have taken part in a lively cooking competition. More than 200 entrants demonstrated their best skills. They prepared their speciality main courses including fish, meat, and vegetables.
The contenders also displayed their dexterity in peripheral techniques like food sculpture. The flavorful event, now in its sixth year, is placing a greater emphasis on Western cuisine.
Shanghai expects a huge influx of international visitors during the 2010 World Expo. The Shanghai Cooking Contest is part of the China National Cooking Competition. The winners from the local engagement will move on to a kitchen clash against their peers from all over the country at the end of the year.
