China Invites Hm To Shanghai World Expo

Invitation has been extended to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-lrertuan of Brunei Darussalam to attend the Shanghai World Expo scheduled to begin on May 1.
A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qin Gang told The Brunei Times that the invitation was conveyed by visiting China State Councillor Dai Bingguo when he met His Majestyin an audience at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday during which both leaders discussed bilateral issues.
The Shanghai World Expo 2010 will take place from May 1 to Oct 31, and is expected to generate the largest number of visitors in the history of the world's fairs in terms of gross numbers.
Brunei will rent a 1,000-square-metre pavilion at the expo to display its education, diversified economy and environmental protection practices.Qin said that the top level meeting signifies the excellent progress in relations between both countries since bilateral relationship was established in 1991.
He also disclosed that the Chinese State Councillor informed His Majesty that China deals with all countries on the principle of equality and with strong mutual respect.
Dai also said even though Brunei was a small country with regards to size, people usually look at the overall wealth of Bruneians, and by looking at income per capital. Brunei was in fact a big nation.
An important theme in the discussion was commerce, where both leaders' agreed that improvements to economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries are crucial for future growth.The areas being mentioned for further collaborations were agriculture, energy and tourism.Dai noted that both countries are already cooperating very closely in the area of agriculture.
He added China is very willing to promote Brunei to Chinese companies as an excel¬ lent country to invest in due to the safe environment and stable economic conditions, and one current example being China's Sinohydro Corporation investment in Brunei.
Qin stressed that both Brunei and China have a lot to learn from each other, and should work closely for a better future.
Earlier the Chinese State Councillor met with His Royal Highness Prince Muhamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade at Balai Penghadapan Bukit Kayangan where the two discussed current bilateral relations.
His Royal Highness also hosted a luncheon for Dai. Also present during the luncheon was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-large at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
