Poles attract the Chinese with a base on the Baltic Sea

2010. 27 January

by Maciek Menakiewicz
(news-poland.com) Poland is preparing a unique offer for the Far East on the occasion of the EXPO 2010 world exhibition, which is going to take place in Shanghai. We are going to propose China to create an European agency at the Baltic Sea for their maritime fleet and shipment of products into the continent.

- The proposal of creating the Chinese Transport-Logistic Centre in the region of the Baltic Sea is one of the elements of the Polish maritime programme, which is going to be presented on this exhibition - says Dariusz Wojtaszek from the EXPO 2010 Polish Agency for Enterprise Development team in Warsaw. -This is a project carried out on the basis of an agreement between PAED and the Ministry of Infrastructure, which is first of all of a promotional nature.

Where the money for this enterprise will come from? The Chinese will cover it because they have an excess of foreign currency - that is how captain of the ocean going navigation Jerzy Uziębło claims, the general secretary of the Polish Chamber of Maritime Commerce in Gdańsk - nearby the port or in the Pruszcz Gdański commune - not far from the A1 highway.

The EXPO 2010 exposition in Shanghai will last from the 1st of May till the 31st of October 2010. In this connection Poland plans to organise many undertakes in Shanghai promoting the maritime sector, for example the Polish and Chinese Business Forum. A multimedia exhibition is designed, that is dedicated to new technologies and also to the Polish maritime tradition.

It is worth to remember that a shipping line between Gdańsk and Shanghai has been lately created.
The first container ship came from Shanghai to the Tri-City on the 4th of January this year.
