China expo trip to cost $1.7m

2010. 30 January

FTIB CEO Annie Rogers explains the layout of Fiji booth on a model of the 2010 China Exporters Expo in the FTIB board room in Kalabu yesterday.

(fijitimes.com) FIJI's participation at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China will cost close to $1.7million.

However, China is providing close to $1.27m worth of grants in cash and kind while the government is putting up $440,000 for the expo.

Fiji Islands Trade and Investment Bureau chief executive Annie Rogers has urged businesses to participate in the May event.

Products to be displayed at the expo will be shipped out by February.

"We can display as many products as we can but we are only allowed to sell five products, which must be 100 per cent sourced from within Fiji," she said. The five are noni, pearls, handicrafts, body products and Fiji Water.

Other products expected to be on display during the expo are furniture, beche-de-mer, Fiji liquor, sugar, yaqona and shoes among many others.

Tourism Fiji will also have a space in the Fiji booth.

An investment seminar is also planned during the expo.

Ms Rogers said they aimed to not only create an awareness of Fiji made products but also attract investors to our shores.
