(brudirect.com) Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Darussalam will be in the eyes of the world as it will host the 'Brunei Day' on May 8 at the biggest upcoming exposition, 'World 2010 Expo', to be held in Shanghai, China.

This was disclosed by the Vice President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CCC) Malcom Lim during a press conference in the capital yesterday. Also present was Lim Ting Guan, Chairman of Young Entrepreneurs of Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

The Vice president also announced the involvement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT), being the ministry in charge of the event. MoFAT is working with the CCC and E-huawang.com to improve the effectiveness of the event. MoFAT has appointed the CCC and E-huawang. com to look for Chinese translators as volunteers at the Brunei Darussalam pavilion to assist and engage government officials to introduce the Sultanate to the visitors.

A representative from E-huawang.com, Sim Chong Siang, also announced that interested applicants can download registration forms through E-huawang.com. Selected applicants will be given training in related knowledge and skills, provided return air tickets, accommodation, transportation and cash incentives.

According to Mr Sim, completed forms are to be faxed to CCC at 2235492 or 2235493. The deadline for the submission of application forms is February 28.

Often regarded as the Olympics of economy, science and technology, the World 2010 Expo will run from May 1 to October 31 and is expected to draw more than 70 million visitors, the largest number ever in any world fair.

Under the theme "Better City - Better Life" the expo signifies Shanghai's new status in the 21" century as a major economic and cultural centre.

With the Expo site strategically located at the 5.28 square kilometres waterfront area on both sides of the Huangpu River, 192 counties - from Russian to Thailand and 50 international organisations - have confirmed their participation.

During the six-month-long expo, Brunei will rent a 1,000square-metre pavilion to display its education, diversified economy and environmental protection practices. This signifies the excellent progress in relations between both countries since bilateral ties were established in 1991.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
