Xiamen Pavilion to display 'livable city' at 2010 Expo

62 days before the Shanghai World Expo opens in Shanghai, further design, pavilion construction and activity organization of Xiamen Pavilion in 2010 Shanghai Expo have been basically competed, preparing for its opening on 2 May 2010.
The 2010 Shanghai Expo China, themed as “Better City - Better Life”, will be the world’s largest extravaganza for its high standard, profound influence and huge platform.
Xiamen is paying much attention to its display at the Shanghai World Expo. Xiamen Pavilion, themed as “Charming city, a garden on the sea”, will demonstrate Xiamen’s all-round practices in improving living environment, creating a warm and livable city and raising citizens’ living quality through the showcase in the exhibition hall, and the hosting of cultural activities and promotion of livable Xiamen, according to Mr. Zhu Jiangsi, Deputy Director of the Expo 2010 Shanghai China Xiamen Office and Deputy Secretary- General of Xiamen Municipal Government.
The Xiamen Pavilion, with a total of 630-square-meters, will be hosted the by Xiamen Municipal Government, and supervised by the Expo 2010 Shanghai China Xiamen Office, led by the Xiamen International Trade Promotion Committee and run by Xiamen Huayi Media Co., Ltd subordinated to the Xiamen Daily Press.
To highlight the theme of the 2010 Shanghai Expo, the Xiamen Pavilion will present its endeavors made to the integrated construction of Xiamen Island and its mainland districts. As for life, the Xiamen Pavilion will showcase its warm and beautiful city, harmonious coexistence with nature, continuous improvement of living environment and diversified proliferation of multi-cultural environment. In the Urban Best Practice Area (UBPA), the Xiamen Pavilion will arrange colorful city activities on its platform.
The opening ceremony is to be held on 2 May, when a promotion of livable Xiamen will be given by Yi Zhongtian, a famous and popular professor at Xiamen University, and Chen Weihong, a Xiamen-born CCTV anchor. On 3 May, the “Xiamen City Show”, will concentrate on display of Minnan folk cultures like Mooncake Gambling or Bobing. On 4 May, there will be a “Gulangyu Island Family Concert”, a feast for global visitors to taste the music culture and lifestyle on Gulangyu Island. Besides, during its opening, there will be performances of Minnan Tea Art, Nanyin Music and Gaojia Opera.
