Xiamen Pavilion to make debut on April 22

Xiamen Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo

(whatsonxiamen.com) The Xiamen Pavilion will be put into trial operation on April 22, eight days ahead of the official opening of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the Xiamen Daily reported on Monday.

Covering a total area of 630 square meters, the Xiamen will be the first city to make its debut in the Urban Best Practice Area (UBPA), formerly a heat power station facing the Huangpu River in Shanghai.

The display design of the Xiamen Pavilion has won the first prize among the 31 world cities that will be displayed in the field of “Other Display Cases” area, according to Mr. Sun Lianxing, head of the UBPA department of Shanghai Expo.

Mr. Liu Cigui, mayor of Xiamen, inspected the Xiamen Pavilion on Monday. He said Xiamen should proudly display itself before the world through the window of the expo by every carefully planned activity, while on the other hand, Xiamen should learn from the world’s advanced cultures during the display.

Xiamen Pavilion will be first opened to visitors on April 22, which means the display time will be 13 days till May 4, 2010.

The 2010 Shanghai World Expo will open on the evening of April 30, 2010.
