Metro to put X-ray scans in all stations

Metro riders with bags and luggage will be asked to go through X-ray security checks at all stations starting March 15, the subway's management said.
City subways will tighten safety checks with 570 X-ray machines at all 10 lines' 200-plus stations.
"The subway stations will be closely watched as the World Expo draws near," said Ying Minghong, the president of the city subway operator, Shanghai Shentong Group.
More scanners will be added if passenger volume increases, Ying said.
Equipment for the checks has been installed at stations and most are undergoing testing.
The number of security staff will also increase, to 6,000 from the current 2,000, Metro police said.
The authorities first used X-ray machines at 12 busy stations in late September last year. Now nearly 100 scanners are working at 31 stations.
