Event could encourage clients to increase business travel, says Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration
Shanghai is urging UK C&I buyers to use the 2010 World Expo being held in the city to encourage their clients to increase business travel.
A more positive event like "World Expo 2010 is a good excuse for UK C&I buyers to convince clients to come to China , and to travel [for business]", he said.
Delegates travelling to the event from outside of China should find the visa application process far easier than the problems some experienced before the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing, Chen added.
"World Expo is 184 days long and so we will not have all the world leaders in one place at the same time," Chen said. "Visa applications will be much easier - it would be impossible to have very strict visa application processes for meetings and incentives travellers to China."
The event is anticipated to attract 70 million visitors, five per cent of which are expected to come from outside of China.
