Café Jubilee at Shanghai World Expo 2010

2010. 22 March

(independent.com.mt) Café Jubilee will open its second overseas outlet during the 2010 Shanghai World Expo with a fully operational outlet in the Malta Pavilion. This follows hot on the heels of the recent opening of a Café Jubilee outlet in Budapest in a joint venture with the Corinthia Group of Companies.

The next World Expo is taking place in China’ s biggest city between 1 May and 31 October. A new Café Jubilee menu, wine and drinks list have been created, modelled on those offered in outlets in Malta, Gozo and Budapest but slightly modified to cater for the Shanghai Expo environment.

“We are honoured to have a Café Jubilee outlet in the Malta Pavilion at the World Expo, which is one of the most prestigious global trade events. Our brief is to promote traditional Maltese products and we will also be enhancing the visitor experience to the Malta stand by offering a full Café Jubilee menu, including all those favourite dishes that are part of Maltese cuisine and which are so popular at our other outlets,” said Alex Scicluna, chief executive officer of Jubilee Group.

The World Expo is held in a different country every time and aims to promote the exchange of ideas and the

development of world economy, culture, science and technology. Boasting a 150-year history, the World Expo is regarded as the Olympic Games of the economy, science and technology worlds. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Better City, Better Life’, an ethos that fits perfectly with the Café Jubilee lifestyle and which represents the wish for better living in urban environments.

To make the traditional Maltese experience more complete, Café Jubilee has also involved long-standing partners Farsons and Delicata Winery in this venture. The Café Jubilee outlet will include products from both these companies on its menu. Anthony Scicluna, one of the directors of Café Jubilee, is travelling to Shanghai to oversee the

setting up and running of the outlet.

“We are setting up a replica of the other Café Jubilee outlets, including all the trademark fixtures, fittings, cutlery and crockery. This is a massive operation in itself. We have already sent a 40-foot container packed with equipment and décor items to Shanghai and our assembly team will be

travelling there shortly to set it up,” said Mr Scicluna.

“This venture will assist our efforts to raise awareness about the Café Jubilee brand in the Far East. It has always been a strong ambition of ours to venture into franchising and we hope that this event will bring us a step closer to fulfilling this ambition,” Mr Scicluna concluded.
