Solomon Islands poised for exposure at World Expo

2010. 12 April

by Charles Kereau
(eturbonews.com) Solomon Islands is poised to benefit a lot from its exposure at the World Exposition in Shanghai, China.

General manager of Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau, Michael Tokuru, said the world event presents an opportunity for Solomon Islands to showcase the country, its people, culture, tourism, and investment potentials to other countries.

At the exposition, Solomon Islands is among Pacific island countries sharing a pavilion at the venue.

Mr. Tokuru, who chairs the committee which is organizing Solomon Island's participation at the World Expo, is leading an advance team to Shanghai to prepare the country's booth within the Pacific Pavilion at the expo site.

The team left the country last week and is expected to return after two weeks of putting up and arranging displays at the country’s stall in the pavilion.

Mr. Tokuru said a soft opening of the world event will take place from April 20 to 26, before the actual official opening on May 1.

He said a total of four staff members will be stationed at Solomon Island's booth throughout the entire event.

Solomon Islands is among fourteen member countries of the South Pacific Tourism Organization that will be participating at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai within the Pacific Pavilion.

Mr. Tokuru said that about 400 cultural items, handicrafts, artworks, tourism promotional materials, trade products and information, investment guides, and philatelic products will be put up for display at the Solomon Islands booth.

A second team, the Solomon Islands Expo staff, will leave the country this week to take up their expo duties during the opening.
