2010. 14 April

by Yue Hongyan
( With the 200th anniversary of the birth of Fryderyk Chopin approaching, the cultural section of Poland's embassy in Beijing has recently announced a series of celebratory events.

"On this occasion, we put great emphasis on preparing many events promoting his works, including music concerts performed by Polish and Chinese pianists, exhibitions, documentaries and feature movies," explained Maciej Gaca from the embassy.

Highlights include A Story About Fryderyk Chopin and Chopin's Poland at the National Center for the Performing Arts scheduled from May 15 to June 15 and Different Faces of Chopin at Meilanfang Theatre on May 19 and in Tianjin on May 21. Different Faces of Chopin will see the composer's music come alive with varied examples of creative interpretation, with both contemporary and traditional presentations from Polish artists.

Last month the Polish embassy launched bi-monthly Polish movies at its cinema in an effort to introduce some of the country's leading works.

This month the Poet of the Reportage exhibition is being held at the Minorities University and Beijing Foreign Studies University in Beijing, to commemorate the work of outstanding Polish journalist Ryszard Kapuscinski.

In Shanghai, series of concerts and dance performances will be held during Expo to mark Poland Day at the Polish Pavilion.
