Good luck charms heading from Prague to Shanghai

2010. 13 April

(press.laterooms.com) Tourists staying in Prague hotels are now able to see new copies of famous plaques on the city’s Charles Bridge.

According to the Prague Daily Monitor, the original plates from the statue of St John Nepomuk are to be displayed as part of the forthcoming Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China.

They are seen as good luck charms - with people touching them to make a wish - and will symbolise happiness, as this is what many visitors are thought to ask for.

Forming part of the Czech Pavilion exhibition at the Expo, the plaques will be accompanied by a model of bridge section that includes the statue, which was created in 1683 - ahead of the canonisation of John Nepomuk in 1729.

Expo 2010 is taking place in Shanghai from May 1st to October 31st and entertainers from all over the world will be taking part - with large-scale Brazilian samba dances and parades among the scheduled activities.
