Pacific banners on display

2010. 22 April

(fijitimes.com) BAanners at the Pacific Pavilion have gone on display at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China.

Pacific Pavilion director Bernadette Rounds-Ganilau said visitors to the pavilion were welcomed by the colourful banners hanging from the entry's ceiling.

She said the banners read out welcome to the Pacific in the different languages of the region and reflected the colours of the pennants within the pavilion identifying the different countries and organisations.

She said the banners were designed by Roger Huggett, who was also responsible for art design and signage for a number of Pacific Pavilions in the past.

Meanwhile, French Polynesia's director of Cabinet Ludovic Liu was in Shanghai to monitor the progress of his island nation's booth and also met with French Polynesia's design and construction team.

Mrs Rounds-Ganilau said although the booth had not been erected during Mr Liu's visit, it had turned out to be the first one to be completed within the pavilion thanks to the hard work of Shanghai-based Vaenui Lehartel and her team.

She said Allan Alo's Oceania dance troupe and the popular Tahiti Ora would put on a two-hour extravaganza at the Pacific's first National Day performance on May 12.

However, the construction of the Pacific Pavilion was expected to be completed yesterday in time for a soft opening.
