Rain fails to deter crowd from visiting Brunei Pavilion

2010. 10 May

Visitors continued to visit the Brunei Pavilion, despite the long drizzle yesterday, which saw a lower than expected turnout at the Shanghai World Expo.

(news.brunei.fm) The Brunei Pavilion attracted a crowd of 15,000 on a day when rain started at around 5am and ended in the evening after 6pm in Shanghai.

Staff were kept busy throughout to ensure the grounds in the pavilion were dry for a safe and non-slippery tour.

The number of visitors into the Shanghai Expo yesterday were recorded at slightly less than 140,000 by the official website as at 8pm (the website did not update the figure at press time), much lower than expected for a Sunday, as long hours of rain discouraged many local residents.

Many visitors moving into the Brunei Pavilion chatted among themselves that this is the pavilion that just celebrated its “Brunei Day” the day before.

There were also visitor-friendly improvements made by Royal Brunei Catering (RBC) at their counter, where 12 chairs were added for visitors to have a cosy area where they can enjoy Brunei delicacies and take a rest in the pavilion at the same time.

Demand for Brunei souvenirs were also hot as RBC ran out of the Brunei brooch that they have been selling at their counter, but new stocks were said to be on their way soon.

RBC will be hoping for even more patrons beginning tomorrow, when the Brunei Halal Brand week kicks off in the pavilion.

Officials from the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) are already in Shanghai to prepare for the event. The Brunei Times
