Haibao gets to work in Inner Mongolia

2010. 31 May

Shanghai’s not the only place that gets to benefit the 2010 Expo’s 'Better City, Better Life' model. Roots & Shoots puts the Expo mascot to work in Inner Mongolia

We never thought we'd see the day when Haibao got down and dirty -- but looks like we underestimated him.

(cnngo.com) We always knew that Haibao got around (check out his questionable past) -- you can’t really turn around in this city without seeing his PR-loving mug -- but we didn’t quite realize his just how far he’d go until we saw this photo and had to share.

Looks like Haibao hopped a flight with Shanghai’s own Root & Shoots’ Million Tree Project to Kulun Qi, Inner Mongolia to bring the 2010 Expo’s “Better City, Better Life” to the area and help curb its rapid deforestation.

“As part of his mantra, ‘Better City, Better Life,’ Haibao is on the Million Tree Project planting trip to help fight desertification and remove carbon dioxide pollution from the air,” explains Roots & Shoots rep Mindy Chen as to exactly why Shanghai’s own little blue man went green. “He hopes to bring Shanghai and China one step closer to being cleaner and greener!”

Chinese deserts expand by more than 67 square kilometers per year. Haibao (okay, the Shanghai-based Million Tree Project), helps to reduce the effects of desertification. Happy to see Haibao's giving the Expo's green message more than lip-service.
