Sweden's Children Day at Expo2010

Swedish Pavilion, within Zone C of the Expo site, staged for a whole day a grand carnival to celebrate the Children’s Day, inspire and entertain children from both China and Sweden.

(english.eastday.com) On June 1, the Swedish Committee for Expo 2010 in Shanghai invited representatives from Sweden Consulate General, Sweden Trade Commitee and children from the quake-striken Yushu county, Qinghai province to particiapte the special carnival. More than 50 children took part in the event.
The carnival,”Innovative Swedish Pavilion and Children’s Day”began at 10:30 a.m. at the Dalecarlian Horse Square in front of the Swedish Pavilion.

At the ceremony, Mr. Zhou Yongchuang, director of the information center of director of the information center of WENHUI-XINMIN United Press Group, presented the huge scroll of painting, symoblic of the innovative ideas of children from China and Sweden, to Ms. Annika Rembe, Commissioner General of the Swedish Committee for Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The paintings were collected on October, 2009. More than a hundred children from both countries participated and weaved their dreams about”idea cities”and”longings for the future”on the over 100-meter- long painting scroll.

After the ceremony, the Dalecarlian Horse Square and The Innovation Stage (Hall E )at the Swedish Pavilion became the major venue for the carnival. At the Square, artisits from Street by Sweden and pavilion guides displayed their talents and sang, danced and played games with the children. Apart from all this, the children from the quake-striken Yushu county played the guzheng and demonstrated traditional Chinese calligraphy. The audience were all touched by their plain but sincere performance. Guides from Iceland Pavilion, which is near Swedish Pavilion, also joined in the event, played games with the children and accompanied them to other National Pavilions of Northern European countries.
