Our booth in Shanghai attracts more visitors

2010. 30 June

Solomon Islands booth within the Pacific Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai, China, continues to attract a large number of Chinese and overseas visitors since the opening of the World Expo 2010 on 1 May 2010.

(solomonstarnews.com) According to the weekly reports from our staff in Shanghai, Solomon Islands booth received a total of 728,789 visitors at the end of the seventh week.

This represents 40% of the total visitors (1,815,553) who visited the Pacific Pavilion during the period.

On a weekly basis, the seventh week saw the highest number of visitors (139,166) who visited the Solomon Islands booth during the period (see graph below).

On average, a total of 15,843 visitors per day visited the Solomon Islands booth during the first seven weeks.

As reported in the last media release, visitors to the SI booth recorded the highest increase in the fourth week during the first three weeks, but dropped slightly in the fifth and sixth week before reaching a new high of about 140,000 visitors in the seventh week.

It is expected the visitors to SI booth will continue to increase in the coming weeks.

In a latest development, the Pacific Pavilion received its two-millionth visitor on 24 June 2010.

The winner was 73 years old Madam Li Mei Xian of Sichuan Shen Province, China (Pacific Pulse Online News: 25/06/10).

With a total of 728,729 visitors in the seventh week, Solomon Islands booth is expected to receive its one-millionth visitor in a few weeks time.

In the mean time, the Organizing Committee is finalizing the arrangements for a Solomon Islands official delegation to travel to Shanghai to attend the Solomon Islands National Day Celebration on 27th July at the World Expo.

On that day, the focus of the Expo officials and the media will be on Solomon Islands. There will be an official programme for the day and the highlights will be the official speech from the Head of Delegation, the exchange of official gifts; the playing of the S.I national anthem; and the raising of the S.I national flag at the venue.

The official programme will be followed by cultural entertainment provided by the Toelegu Panpipe Group from Isabel Province at the Oceania Square and other venues; live demonstration around the SI booth and selected venues by wood carvers, shell money-makers, weavers, and local artists; video shows and seminars; and the friendly welcome from our Solomon Islands staff at the S.I booth during the day.

The S.I National Day celebration at the World Expo will provide a great opportunity for Solomon Islands officials, expo staff, local entertainers and demonstrators, our local journalists, and others who will be present to further showcase Solomon Islands and what it offers in terms the country’s diverse culture and people, business and investment opportunities, tourism potential, and others.

To assist with the sending of the S.I official delegation, the Organising Committee is holding a fundraising night at the Honiara Hotel on 2 July 2010.

Funds raised will go towards meeting the cost of air tickets, visas, and accommodation. Only a few tickets for corporate tables are remaining.
