Youth Week kicks off at Shanghai World Expo

The 2010 Shanghai World Expo Youth Week and the grand opening ceremony of the world prestigious universities celebration was held in Shanghai Expo areas yesterday.

The dance poem Propitious Clouds accompanied by traditional Chinese string music instruments from Fudan University brought the audience into the elegant realm of traditional Chinese culture.
The Wiffenboof chorus from Yale University offered the audience a chance to hear the world's oldest academic pure chorus.
Students from eight world-renowned universities, including Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Beijing University, Tsing-hua and Shanghai Communications University, provided a superb performance for more than 2,000 adolescents at home and abroad and their alumni at Expo Park in the Puxi area of Shanghai.
The grand opening ceremony of the world prestigious universities celebration is the first theme week based on youth in the history of the World Expo. It aims to promote the world's concern over growth and development of the youth, embodies roles of the youth in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and in the future world development and conveys responsibilities and duties of the youth for the future.
The first Youth Week, which will last from July 4 to July 18, is jointly hosted by the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo and Fudan University. It is made up of two parts inside and outside of the Expo areas. There are three performances held at the Expo Center in the Puxi area and 42 activities in campus and residential communities every day.
There are lots of other activities for youth including the Global Youth Innovation Tour, the Dockyard Theater and Recreation Bay for children.
