China hall lit up in Shanghai

2009. 25 June

(cctv.com) Staying in Shanghai, the lights are on at the China Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo, marking a new stage of the construction work for the event, to be held next May.

A ceremony was held on Monday night, when the lights of the China Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo lit up.

The coronet shaped structure drew on inspiration from the Dougong brackets widely found in ancient Chinese architecture.

After the whole building receives power, the facility will begin further adjustments. Testing the air conditioner system will be done during days of high temperatures, to guarantee comfortable conditions in the hall during the same season next year.

Following on from the China Pavilion, other halls will be also be lit up.

Zhou Yongxing, manager of Shanghai Electric Power Company, said, "We've invested sixteen transformer substations, which cost 6 billion yuan, or less than 1 billion US dollars. The modification of all electric power facilities will be complete at the end of this year."

Full of Chinese elements, the China Pavilion is sending a welcoming message to the visitors for next year's international event.
