China Expo gets US pavilion boost
2009. 9 July

US representatives are preparing to break ground as soon as next week on the country's pavilion for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, ending speculation over whether the US might not turn up at what is being billed as the largest ever Expo fair.
China had become concerned that the US, which is barred by law from using government funds to build its pavilion, might miss the party.
After phone calls from Hillary Clinton, US secretary of state, US companies have committed $20m (€14.5m, £12.5m). But this is still short of the $61m needed to build and operate the US pavilion.
