French art at Expo

2009. 14 July

(alibaba.com) During the 2010 Expo in Shanghai, 7 masterworks of 7 French masters will be exhibited in the France Gallery, offering Chinese audiences a chance to take an up-close look at some of the national treasures of France.

The scheduled works will include Paul Cezanne’s The Woman with a Coffeepot, Pierre Bonnard’s The Loge, Vincent van Gogh’s The Dance Hall, Francois Millet’s The Angelus 1859, Manet Edouard’s The Balcony, Paul Gauguin’s The Meal and Augustine Rodin’s sculpture The Age of Bronze, each dating back over a century.

To ensure the safety of these priceless works of art, the French government will send 7 planes to transport them from France to China, each plane carrying one work.

According to Fang Ke, the curator of France Gallery at the expo, “these 7 masterpieces have never gone abroad. It is really hard to imagine that they will stay in Shanghai for 6 months. We really hope that the exhibition of these will show the best of France to the world.”
