Shanghai Double-Decker Bridge Nears Completion

The construction of Asia's longest cable-stayed river bridge is nearing completion in Shanghai, according to local media reports. The 3,610 metre Minpu Bridge will partially open to traffic in September, and will be fully operational before the start of the 2010 World Expo on 1 May next year.
The new bridge spanning Shanghai's Huangpu River has a main span of 708 metres and is the first double-deck traffic bridge in Shanghai. It will connect with the A15 Expressway linking the city to Pudong International Airport and cities of the neighbouring province of Zhejiang.
The upper level features eight traffic lanes with a speed limit of 120kph. The four-lane lower tier will have a 60kph speed restricton according to its constructor, the Shanghai Foundation Engineering Co.
