(bernama.com) Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen today met Shanghai World Expo Coordination Bureau director-general Hong Hao to discuss the progress of Expo 2010 Shanghai and Malaysia's participation in the event.
The event will be held between May 1 and Oct 31, next year.
During the discussion, Dr Ng said the organiser had requested her ministry and the leader of the Malaysian team for the expo to submit the pavillion plans by the end of next month.
"Malaysia will participate in this event and the tourism ministry will lead this project.
"However, other ministries such as education, agriculture and agro-based industry and information, communications and culture will also participate.
"I am confident the preparation will definitely be on time," she told reporters here.
"I believe we can do a good job...and this would be a great experience for Malaysians to visit the expo because it is really famous," she said.
Meanwhile, Hong said preparation was smooth despite the global financial crisis.
To date, 234 countries and international organisations had confirmed their participation, with most having signed participation contracts, he said.
"Countries need the Expo 2010 to boost the economy, uplift confidence and have a glimpse of the future. Expo Shanghai organisers will spare no effort to support all participants," he added.
Malaysia signed the participation contract with the World Expo 2010 organisers in March and will build its pavilion covering an area of 3,000 square metres.
Expo 2010 Shanghai China will be a great event to explore the full potential of urban life in the 21st century and a significant period in urban evolution.
