Korean firms to participate in Shanghai Expo

(steelguru.com) It is reported that Korean companies plan to actively take part in Shanghai Expo to be held next year in a bid to promote their products and brands to over 1.2 billion consumers in China market.

Officials said that a group of 12 companies including Samsung Electronics, Kumho Asiana, Shinsegae, POSCO, Hyundai Motors and Korea Electric Power Corporation
will build a joint exhibition facility in Puxi region. It is aimed at introducing their state of the art technology applied in products as well as to enhance their corporate image. Hyosung and SK Telecom also plan to take part in the project.

Officials added that the government, along with the state run Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency, is separately constructing Korea Pavilion in Pudong region. The government plans to spend KRW 29.6 billion for operations at the expo, including construction work for the pavilion. About 6 million tourists are expected to visit the pavilion.

Business leaders said that it will cooperate with the Korean government on promoting the country's history, culture and future in China during a business government meeting. The government and businesses shared views that the upcoming event will offer opportunities for Korean companies to expand their presence in China's market. They also agreed to promote Korean food as a part of efforts to globalize the local cuisine.

The World Expo Shanghai 2010 is expected to draw 70 million visitors with more than 230 participating countries. The theme of the exposition will be "Better City, Better Life," and the event is scheduled to take place from May 1st 2010 to October 31st 2010.
