Danish design team will take part in Chinese EXPO fairytale

2009. 31 August

(ebst.dk) The two designers, May-Britt Gram, 48, and Hanne Larsen, 45, will now get the opportunity to impress the Chinese visitors during EXPO 2010 in Shanghai.

The two designers won an open design competition to create a special collection to be used by the staff at the Danish Pavilion. The collection underlines the overall concept of the pavilion – “Welfairytales”, which is a holistic story about Denmark’s unique strengths, told with a point of departure in the shared aspects of China and Denmark.

May-Britt Gram and Hanne Larsen’s point of departure is the architectural shape of the EXPO-pavilion with references to The Little Mermaid . Also the fact that so many Danes bike is shown in the design as a fragment of a bike wheel is used as a significant symbol that reappears throughout the collection.

The colour red is used as a symbol of the traditional colour in both China and Denmark, and the requirement of sustainability is fulfilled by using organic and intelligent textiles. Furthermore, the designers have suggested that manufactures in China that live up to the CSR-requirements will be used.
