"Green Scale" of the World Expo is needed by the City

These days, a series of environmental protection policy has been applied
in Shanghai to have it ready for the World Expo, such as, limiting the entrance
of high-emission vehicles to downtown area, eliminating the supply of #90
gasoline, applying the GB-IV standard for new vehicle manufactures in advance,
and encouraging the retirement of used cars,

It is estimated that Shanghai World Expo will receive 70 million domestic and overseas visitors. The crowd of people by all kinds of vehicles will cause a fairly large quantity of emission. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the environmental protection was applied to ensure the quality of the air and local transportation. For example, companies with high pollution around Beijing were forced to close and the motor vehicles were limited to travel every other day by the last number (odd or even) of their plates. Compared with 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2010 Shanghai World Expo is longer and has a larger capacity of visitors. So, the debut of some environmental protection policies is nothing but creation of a green environment, which is also the expectation of every Shanghai citizen and will probably be understood and supported by most citizens.
To have a successful World Expo is the obligation and incumbency for which Shanghai has no chance to be modest. The degree of "green" in Shanghai is an essential factor, since people all over the world will judge it by the "Green Olympics" in Beijing. Moreover, the "Green World Expo" is not limited to the good environment of shanghai, the friendly people and charming culture of the city are meaningful as well.
"Better city, better life", the spirit of the coming World Expo in Shanghai, has a rich connotation and upholds the artistic conception that "making the environment greener and making the life better". In schools, this idea has been being widely broadcasted by the student oral debate competition with the topics of new energy and new technology. In social activity area, the environment protection activities of students attracted the adults' attention and encouraged their progress on the environment improvement. Meanwhile, a 3-year environment protection plan, investing 3% of the GDP every year, has been repeated three times consecutively in Shanghai in order to build a more living friendly city. Actually, with the hard working for many years, the rate of good air condition in Shanghai has been more than 85% for the past six years. Especially, in the recent two years, it reaches 90%. At the same time, the quality of water environment has been keeping improving as well. The green coverage ratio has increased from 20% to 38%, and average public green land area per capita has increased from 3.62 sq meters to 12.5 sq meters. According to the latest survey of Gallup, 87% people in shanghai acknowledged this improvement of environment quality.
The Industrial Revolution, which is used to be regarded as sweet, has now got reflection from the civilization and progress of the global village. Some manufacture methods which were regard as advanced technology in the earlier stage of the World Expo, are regarded as backward now because of their harm in the environment. Some living styles which were believed to be good are declined due to their high consumption of resource and energy. From "Science, Civilization and Humanity" to "Going to Peace through Understanding"; from "Development without pollutions" to "Re-discover the miracle of nature", every World Expo is a witness of human's progress.
Benefited from the World Expo, people in Shanghai has changed their attitude to the environmental protection from "request others" in the past to "begin from myself" now; from rubbish classification to water saving, from stopping using plastic shopping bag to set higher AC temperature, etc. In one word, the expectation of "Green Expo" of Shanghai citizens is calling for the continuation of the green chapter of the human civilization and progress by Shanghai World Expo.
