Shanghai Unicom Ramps Up Mobile Swipe Payment

China Unicom's (NYSE:CHU, 0762.HK, 600050.SH) Shanghai subsidiary said September 9 that it has begun mass producing handsets with a SIM card-swipe payment function and will begin offering them soon, reports cww.net.cn.
Shanghai Unicom first released the handset in April, and the swipe payment function is now valid in all locations that accept public transport cards, said subsidiary Vice General Manager Lu Dongliang.
Shanghai Unicom plans to invest RMB 700 million in its 2010 Expo communication project and establish 13 base stations and offering 3G and SIM payment services at the Expo site, said Lu.
Unicom has entered partnerships for 3G roaming with 57 operators in 34 countries, said company Vice President Zhao Jidong.
