“Better City, Better Life” - Swedish authorities collaborating to promote sustainable urban development
On September 10th the Swedish government decided that Delegationen för hållbara städer will cooperate with Boverket, Formas, Riksantikvarieämbetet och Arkitekturmuseet to jointly contribute to activities in a range of issues - including sustainable development during the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The mission is to contribute to an increased international attention by Swedish sustainable architecture and urban design.
“Spirit of Innovation”, Sweden’s theme during World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, is the starting point for all joint activities in this area. The exact content is still to be decided, but it is clear that the activities will demonstrate a vision and future opportunities for residential areas with major physical, ecological and social needs of development. Activities may also shed light on how higher architectural quality, historical dimensions and social and cultural activities along with innovations such as reduced energy consumption, better public transport solutions and better access for all, can create neighborhoods that may be included in a comprehensive sustainable society.
Delegationen för hållbara städer is appointed during 2008-2010 to promote the work of long-term well-functioning and attractive urban environment while minimizing environmental impact. The theme for World Expo 2010 in Shanghai is “Better City, Better Life” and it will take place between May 1st and October 31st 2010.
