Shanghai Culture Week scheduled for October

(etaiwannews.com) The organizers of Expo 2010 Shanghai China will hold a Shanghai Cultural Week in Taipei in October to promote the fair, the sponsor of the promotional event said Wednesday.

Hsu Po-yun, the head of the New Aspect International Cultural and Educational Foundation, said at a press conference that the Shanghai Cultural Week, together with the Taipei Cultural Week to be held in Shanghai in June, 2010, are part of the Cross-strait City Art Festival that will be held in conjunction with the Shanghai expo and the 2010 Taipei International Gardening and Horticulture Exposition, respectively.

The 2010 Shanghai expo will open May 1 and last through Oct. 31, while the 2010 Taipei International Gardening and Horticultural Exposition will be held between Nov. 6, 2010 and April 25, 2011.

Lee Yong-ping, director of the Cultual Affairs Department of the Taipei City government, said that Taipei will take part in the Shanghai fair's Urban Best Practices Area to exhibit two of its achievements -- Wireless Taipei, Taipei Infinity and Total Recycling, Zero Landfill, Working towards Cities' Sustainability.

The Shanghai Cultural Week will open Oct. 15 at the Chungshan Hall in downtown Taipei, featuring 15 performances and and a month-long exhibition.

These will include a display of juggling skills by a Shanghai youth group as well as exhibitions of fine arts, film, and documentaries related to Shanghai.
