(english.cri.cn) Future Pavilion at the 2010 World Expo will showcase cutting-edge technologies in traffic, energy, health care and agriculture, the organizer said yesterday as Shanghai Zhangjiang High-tech Park signed a contract with the event's organizer to take over the exhibition of the 1,600-square-meter pavilion.
The pavilion will boast artificial trees with solar energy panels hidden inside the leaves and a refrigerator that tells its owner where to find the best discounts on groceries.
Future Pavilion will also showcase a futuristic hotel that rotates so guests can enjoy views of the surrounding scenery, said Zhang Yong, general manager of Zhangjiang (Group) Co.
The park will select 60 innovative projects from more than 1,000 companies with a base inside the park. So far, 179 companies, including Roche and General Electric, have submitted proposals for the pavilion.
Roche's proposal includes exhibiting an instrument that tells people what potential diseases, such as diabetes, they are at risk of getting with a short and simple test, said Andreas Tschirky, general manager of the company's research and development center.
