(channelnewsasia.com) Singapore firm Cityneon has won an US$8 million bid to build ndonesia's pavilion at next year's World Expo in Shanghai.

Indonesia's pavilion at the World Expo will be the largest the country has ever built.

Occupying 4,000 square metres, it will offer visitors a glimpse of the country's diverse culture and lifestyle.

"We hope in our pavilion, which is being called Biodivercity, not with an 's' but with a 'c', visitors can experience... through an actual journey... the diverse nature, natural resource, culture and creative peoples of Indonesia - a journey that hopefully you won't forget. You will see, hear,... smell and taste all that's diverse about Indonesia, and... life in Indonesia's city," said Dr Mari Elka Pangestu, Indonesia's Minister of Trade.

And making this happen is a Singapore company, which has won the bid to construct the pavilion.

"We are known for giving value for money,... for our reliability, and the fact that we have already been awarded two other pavilions by Oman as well as Qatar, stand us in very good steed, in terms of our exposure and experience," said Ko Chee Wah, group MD of Cityneon.

And in keeping with the World Expo's theme "Better City, Better Life", Cityneon said the materials used are organic, and can be re-used after the exhibition.

"Indonesia is known for its eco-friendly policies right now and the whole pavilion is going to be built, as far as possible, using organic materials such as bamboo and timber... (It's) full of landscaping and a lot of flora plants - I think about 60-70 per cent of the materials can be re-used after the exhibition," said Ko.

Officiating at the ground breaking ceremony, the Indonesian minister of trade said Indonesia's participation signifies the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Indonesia is China's 4th largest trading partner among the 10 countries of ASEAN. The World Expo is expected to attract 70 million visitors over a five-month period that starts on May 1, 2010.
