3DX-RAY delivers x-ray scanning equipment to the Chinese government

2009. 28 September

(securitypark.co.uk) As part of the security arrangements for World Expo 2010, to be held in Shanghai, 3DX-RAY has delivered a new batch of x-ray scanning equipment to the Chinese government.

3DX-RAY has already supplied the Chinese government with six Axis-3D baggage scanners that have been deployed at the Beijing Olympics, the Shanghai Post Office and other government buildings. Following the success of the original order the contract was extended and 3DX-RAY has now delivered another 14 Axis-3D scanners.

Edmond Wong, from Unitech, the project’s distributor, commented, “The Axis-3D was the only x-ray scanner on the market that could fulfil the Chinese government’s specifications. The brief particularly required 3D scanners as they have been proven to significantly enhance security. The results of the deployment of Axis-3D scanners at the Olympics were very positive. Consequently, the government wanted to extend the use of 3DX-RAY’s equipment at the upcoming World Expo.”

The Axis-3D is a fully integrated standalone 2 and 3D x-ray inspection system suited for baggage and small parcel inspection. It has been designed to meet the specific deployment needs of the Homeland Security market sector. It offers real time, high resolution 3D images to provide the best possible view of the contents of a package or bag.

3DX-RAY’s proprietary software, integrated into the Axis-3D, offers the operator powerful imaging capabilities coupled with ease of use, allowing the operator to quickly and confidently establish the contents of any package or bag. In both 2D and 3D modes, images are seamlessly presented with a host of image processing functions. The Axis-3D also incorporates the novel dual energy x-ray analysis (DEXA) ability developed by 3DX-RAY that can differentiate between organic and inorganic materials.

Nick Fox, CTO at 3DX-RAY commented, “The additional information provided by 3D scanning helps to minimise human error that can occur during security checks, this is crucial for high profile events such as the World Expo. The ‘best in class’ 3D imaging solution that the Axis-3D provides, offers operators a real time 3D x-ray view of a package’s contents which has been shown by the Transport Security Administration in the US to provide significant security benefits over other x-ray imaging machines.”
