Alcatel-Lucent offers 3G solutions to Shanghai Telecom

(tradingmarkets.com) Shanghai Telecom, the municipal branch of China Telecom (0728.HK; CHA.NYSE), has finished the test and verification of the EVDO Rev. B solutions provided by Alcatel-Lucent, who will accelerate the network speed of Shanghai Telecom up by three times for supporting the increasingly complicated 3G business.
Shanghai Telecom launched China's first CDMA EV-DO trial commercial network in March, and had it covered all urban and rural areas of the city in three months. Besides, Alcatel-Lucent plans to conduct field test of the EVDO Rev. B, to help the telecom operator offering high-quality 3G services during the World Expo 2010 Shanghai.
Qiu Ronghong, president of Alcatel-Lucent East Asia and chairman for Alcatel Shanghai Bell, said that the company will assist Shanghai Telecom for providing advanced mobile broadband services and improve the user experience through cost-effective CDMA software upgrade.
