Pacific pavilion in China shaping up

2009. 17 October

by Moffat Mamu
(solomonstarnews.com) THE Pacific village in next year's Shanghai Expo is shaping up.

The Council of Ministers during this week's South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) meeting in Honiara got an update of the progress and have expressed appreciation to the host nation, China.

They have been briefed that the 2010 Shanghai Expo Pacific Pavilion has received and work has commenced on the interior displays.

The Pacific Pavilion is the 3rd largest in the world expo.

The Chinese pavilion, of course, is the largest.

It was revealed that a staggering 70 million visitors are expected to the Expo, presenting an excellent promotional opportunity for the Pacific Tourism, trade and investment.

All 14 Pacific Island countries have confirmed their participation in the pavilion.

The ministers have therefore acknowledged with appreciation the financial and technical support given by the Chinese government to the Pacific region and in particular the support given to the establishment of the Pacific Pavilion and technical assistance.

During this week's meeting in Honiara a number of Chinese tourism officials are also present.
