Qantas to Sponsor Australia at Shanghai Expo

2009. 21 October

(shanghaidaily.com) Qantas on October 21 announced it had signed on as a major sponsor of the Australian Government’s National Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010.

The Shanghai Expo, the largest world expo in history and the first to be hosted by China, is expected to attract at least 70 million people between May and October 2010.

Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alan Joyce, said the sponsorship would be a unique opportunity to help the Government and other supporters showcase Australian history, cities and peoples, in the world’s fastest developing major economy.

“The best of Australia will be on display next year in Shanghai and we expect around seven million visitors through the turnstiles,” Mr Joyce said.

“In particular, the Australian Pavilion will explore our diverse and evolving connections with China and its people,” he said.

“We’re proud to be supporting an Australian presence at such an eminent major event, promoting the many facets of our economy and culture to the rest of the world.

“In supporting the National Pavilion in Shanghai, Qantas is looking forward to a future of even more robust travel links between China and Australia.”

Mr Joyce thanked the Minister for Trade, the Hon Simon Crean MP, and the Australian Government, for their significant commitment to the Shanghai Expo.

“The Australian Government is investing heavily in this event, recognising its importance to Australia’s economic opportunities and cultural capital in the Asia Pacific region,” he said.

“I am confident Australia will derive great benefit by generating investment opportunities and tourism interest from a diverse audience spanning the entire globe.”
