48 Pavilions Are Built, Construction Chief Says

The 2010 Shanghai World Expo organizer yesterday finished construction on 11 joint pavilions and 37 rented ones - housing more than 180 participant countries and international organizations at the event.
Five remaining rented pavilions are scheduled to be finished by the end of the year. The work was delayed because five countries - Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Croatia and South Africa - were late in signing their contracts.
The next step will be interior decorating and landscaping, said Li Yinfa, a project manager for construction.
The contractors will hand over the pavilions to participants to set up their exhibitions by year's end, Li said.
So far, 192 countries and 50 international organizations have confirmed participation.
