Federal Government Takes Over Pavilion For Expo 2010

(leadershipnigeria.com) Nigeria delegation to Shanghai, China has taken over the Nigeria Pavilion on behalf of the federal government for the Shanghai Expo 2010 in China.

The pavilion was handed over to the leader of the delegation, Dr. Abubakar Mohammad, the permanent secretary of minister of Commerce and Industry on Monday, November 23, 2009 at the headquarters of Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Mohammad said that Nigeria is conscious of the time limit on the fact that they were slightly behind schedule. He pointed out that the delegation had selected Yanhua Multimedia from the three service providers namely United Workshop, Cogito Image, Yanhua Multimedia recommended by the organiser of the event after a thorough screening, analysis and selection process.

In his words, “all the three services providers made a beautiful presentation which we analysised and come up with the Yanhua Multimedia. Having listened to them, we were sure they will be able to meet the target of decorating our pavilion.”

Earlier, the deputy director general (vice chairman), bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, Shanghai Municipal People' Government Construction and Communication, Mr. Huang Jianzhi, stated that 242 countries have confirmed participation at the Shanghai World Expo 2010, adding that they are expecting more than 70 million visitors to the event.

Mr. Jianzhi pointed out that they have created participants’ service centre, zone management department (for accommodation) and international Participants and press corps department, noting that the construction and operations of the expo was estimated to cost China 18 Billion RMB and 10.6 billon respectively.

He assured the delegation that the bureau would assist Nigeria in construction of its pavilion to specification and expressed the hope for wonderful Nigeria Pavilion for Shanghai Expo.

The construction of all facilities is scheduled to be completed at the end of this year. The site will have its trial opening on April, 2009, a month ahead of the Expo kick-off. The Nigeria delegation led by Dr. Abubakar Mohammad and Consul General Mr. Eri Begham were taken on inspection of the pavilion and apartment allocated to Nigeria.
