Danish Expo project to open its door

2009. 2 December

Today preview is taking place for the Danish pavilion at the Expo exhibition in Shanghai which is officially to open in June 2010. The Expo exhibition will be the largest Danish initiative so far.

(copcap.com) Denmark is to put every ounce of energy into it with regard to the world exhibition in Shanghai next year. Expo 2010 – the official name of the exhibition – is to open on 1 June 2010 – but already today the opening of the Danish pavilion, which is nearly completed,
took place in Shanghai.

Some of the Danish companies, sponsoring Expo 2010 are Mærsk, Carlsberg, Grundfos, Kopenhagen Fur and Arla. The companies hope that the Chinese people, visiting the exhibition will realise that the Danish products are able to create structure, system, quietness and welfare:

The pavilion which is designed by architect Bjarke Ingels from BIG, has a budget for DKK 150 million, of which half stems from private Danish companies. Minister of Environment Troels Lund Poulsen is to present the pavilion today to the Chinese public – and the plan is to create large-scale interest in Denmark and Danish products within environmental technology, urban planning, architecture and climate.

“As Danes we have a very good starting point with regard to standing out from the crowd at Expo 2010 because our reputation within construction, architecture, welfare, environment and infrastructure is good. Moreover focus is on us as a result of the climate summit in Copenhagen – which we presume will still be relevant next summer. And finally the theme for Expo 2010 is just perfect for us – it is “Better City – Better Life”, says general manager Finn Lauritzen at Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority which is behind the Danish part of Expo 2010.
