Mexican Chamber Marks First Anniversary in Shanghai

2009. 4 December

(laht.com) The Mexican Chamber of Commerce in China, or MEXCHAM, on Thursday celebrated its first anniversary in Shanghai, mainland China’s finance and trade center. MEXCHAM president Rafael Valdez, Mexican Consul General Miguel Barrio and the commissioner for Mexico’s pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai, Eduardo Seldner, marked the business group’s anniversary at a ceremony. MEXCHAM was created a year ago by 40 Mexican businessmen and executives who live in China, launching its operations in the first quarter of 2009. Valdez signed a cooperation agreement with ProMexico, a government agency that works to expand foreign trade, that opens the way for promotional events that will be held until the Expo ends in October 2010.

Members of Shanghai’s Mexican community attended the event, which featured a peek at the pavilion Mexico is constructing for the Expo.

Seldner discussed the projects that will be carried out at the pavilion, which will feature a restaurant, a business center, a permanent exhibition hall, a tourism promotion center, a shop and a multipurpose room.

Mexico hopes to draw 1,000 visitors an hour to its pavilion, turning the site into one of the most visited at the Expo, Seldner said. EFE
