Taiwan renews funds appeal

2009. 11 December

by Yang Jian
(shanghaidaily.com) Taiwan is seeking the remaining half of its 200 million yuan (US$29.29 million) budget to build and operate its pavilion at next year's World Expo, an official said yesterday at a ceremony to mark the completion of its steel structure.

Fundraising will not be a problem for the island as many Taiwan companies have made oral agreements to donate, said Wang Chih Kang, chairman of the Taipei World Trade Center,
the organization responsible for Taiwan Pavilion at the Expo.

At the topping-off ceremony, Wang urged more companies to donate.

The Taiwan organizer halted private fundraising for the pavilion across the island in August after the deadliest typhoon in half a century brought great economic loss.

The final beam was hung on the top of the pavilion after officials of Taiwan and the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination as well as sponsor companies signed their names on a red ribbon attached to it.
