Czechs select exhibits for Shanghai Expo by vote

2009. 28 December

by Czech News Agency
(praguemonitor.com) The Czech regalia, the Prague astronomical clock and Vamberk laces will be among the exhibits at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai, Czechs decided in a public vote, public broadcaster Czech Television (CT) said in Friday's programme "Wonders of the Czech Republic."

The Czech Republic will be represented by 25 "pearls" or "wonders."

The "pearls" also include the Czech architectonic Cubism, a Charles Bridge replica, Czech spa resorts, the medieval South Bohemian town Český Krumlov and the Lednice-Valtice area in south Moravia as well as contact lenses, the ship propeller and the word robot.

The "pearls" are among the 22 exhibits that will create the Czech exhibition and are the only exhibits that turn into Czech history, Pavel Stehlík, general commissioner of the Czech participation in the Expo, told CT Friday.

Stehlik said the exhibition mainly focused on the presence, displaying the Czech Republic of the third millennium.

Stehlik said the Czech Republic would demonstrate itself as a crossroads through which ideas, views, attitudes and technologies from the whole world flowed.

The exhibition's authors stress the exceptional character and the world would be surprised, Stehlík said.

Expo 2010 will start in Shanghai on May 1. On May 17 the Czech Republic will have a national day at the exhibition grounds. Part of it will be performances by the National Theatre in Prague ballet ensemble, street theatre, a week of Czech design, culture and arts, and a street-art show to which artists from other countries will also be invited.
