Sweden unveils pavilion design for Shanghai Expo

(news.xinhuanet.com) Sweden unveiled its design thinking of the pavilion for Shanghai Expo and presented a multi-media mock-up of the building at a lunching ceremony in Stockholm on Thursday.

    Ewa Nygren, CEO of Swedish engineering design company SWECO which designs the Swedish pavilion of Shanghai Expo, introduces their designing concept at the launching ceremony. Nygren said, the Swedish pavilion at Expo 2010 is a temporary building which covers 3,000 square meters.

    It is consisted of four connected traditional urban-style buildings. The pavilion reflects the harmonious interaction between city life and nature.Meanwhile, Johanees Tull, designer of SWECO, displays an electronical imitation of the pavilion. He said the exhibition will present on the basis of urban life, creation and sustainability.

    The pavilion will also present how wood is used in modern architecture, and how to save energy by choosing proper materials.Hundreds of Sweden celebrities attended the launching ceremony, including Ulf Berg, who is in charge of the Swedish Export Council and Chen Mingming, Chinese Ambassador to Sweden.

    The Swedish organizer invited a Chinese teacher from Stockholm’s Northern Europe Confucius Institute to the ceremony. In just 10 minutes, many people learnt some daily expression such as “Hello”, “Thank you” and “How much is it?”

    Soundbite: Annika Rembe, General Representative of Swedish organizer “The theme of Swedish exhibition is ‘Glow of creation’, mainly because Sweden is commonly regarded as one of the most creative countries in the world.”

    Rembe said the essential core of creative concept is “sustainability”. Thus the Swedish pavilion will apply advanced energy saving and recycling program.
