Expo site construction near end

2010. 2 January

(cctv.com) The 2010 World Expo is shaping up as the biggest yet, with almost 2-hundred countries and organizations participating. The expo will be held in Shanghai from May 1st to October 31st. And with only four months to go construction is almost complete.

The 30-thousand-square-meter National Pavilion of China has a very proud name ... the Crown of the East. The exterior is almost completely decorated. Now workers are busy with the interior.

Visitors will be amazed by the Chinese culture inside... inspired by the theme "Chinese wisdom in urban development". Designers will showcase urban Chinese construction from ancient times to today.

The highlight is a 100-meter projection of the panoramic painting " The festival of Pure Brightness on the River". The painting depicts daily life in the ancient capital of Kaifen, more than 1000 years ago.

Multimedia technology will make the characters in the painting walk and move.

Pan Gongkai, Chief designer of China's National Pavilion, said, "There are a lot of characters in the painting. We will try to make them move and look more interesting so the visitors can feel the charm of this 1,000 year old city."
