GM: Share the Excitement of Driving to 2030 with You!

2010. 6 January

by Oriental Morning Post
(gmexpo2010.com) In 2010, the Expo 2010 site along the Huangpu River will become the center of the world's attention.
As a global partner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai, General Motors is greatly honored to be playing a role along with our strategic partner, SAIC.

Over the past 150 years, Global Expositions have provided a great platform for scientific and technological innovation. They have recorded the growth of human achievements. With 101 years of history and many industry innovation firsts, GM has been an old friend of Global Expositions. GM has participated in seven Global Expositions, leaving a unique footprint. Especially at 1939 New York World’s Fair, GM presented its vision for an interstate highway system at its Futurama pavilion. Twenty years later, that vision became reality, changing the way people move completely.

In 2010, GM will once again be front and center at Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China. We will showcase our vision for human mobility over the next two decades through our latest technologies.

GM and our partner SAIC are building a pavilion under the theme of "Drive to 2030”, where we will provide visitors a preview of how urban transportation will be 20 years later. In our vision, the dream of "free mobility" will be fulfilled by then. It will be a future that is free from emissions, free from petroleum, free from traffic congestion, and free from accidents. What’s more, it will be a future in which driving is more fun and fashionable than ever before.

On behalf of GM and our employees, I invite our friends from around the world to visit our pavilion, and to share the excitement of driving to 2030 with us. On the journey to 2030, visitors will be able to see the most advanced technologies such as electrification, connectivity and autonomous driving technologies. They also will be able to experience for themselves the vision of freedom of mobility and leave with the notion that the vision they see will actually be able to be realized in their lifetimes.

Looking back on 2009, GM recorded unprecedented achievements in China. GM and our joint ventures set new sales records on a monthly basis, increasing our sales by 65 percent over 2008. We continued to expand our business in China and establish new partnerships. We continued to launch new models such as the Buick New Regal, the new Buick LaCROSSE and the Chevrolet Cruze. We continued to introduce new technologies like the OnStar in-vehicle telematics service. We also established the China Science Lab to strengthen our R&D capability in China. As the year came to a close, GM International Operations and General Motors China moved into our new headquarters in Shanghai, marking a new milestone for GM’s development in China and deepening our roots in the world’s fastest-growing passenger car market.

Looking at the year 2010, we will bring you more surprises. And we believe that World Expo 2010 Shanghai will add a great milestone in GM’s history in the year of 2010.

As the present year comes to a close, I want to wish you a Happy New Year on behalf of General Motors. I look forward to the arrival of 2010, to the arrival of World Expo 2010 Shanghai, and to sharing with you the power of technology and the excitement of “Driving to 2030.”
