Thomas Heatherwick, designer of the British pavilion at Shanghai's Expo 2010, figured that foreign visitors would expect Britain to conjure images of "bowler hats, black taxis and rain." Instead, he gave them an extraordinary objet d'art ( "a building which is an exhibit, or an exhibit which is a building," as he calls it) that resembles a giant dandelion head with thousands of seeds embedded in 60,000 acrylic rods that sway in the breeze.

265. Sweden's Expo pavilion boasts innovative, sustainable structure

by Xinhua (news.xinhuanet.com) Sweden's pavilion in the World Expo in Shanghai reflects innovation and sustainability in Sweden, Jan Soderlind, director of the International Wood Program of the Swedish Forest Industries Federation, said in a recent interview with Xinhua.
To be compatible with the Expo's theme of "Better City, Better Life," Sweden's pavilion was constructed out of four square boxes, each of them made of 20 cubic meters of wood structure.

The idea behind the YeZ Concept is that it will photosynthesize, absorbing carbon dioxide from surrounding air and emitting oxygen back into the atmosphere.
